Sarra

Meet Sarra. She's a Cloud Engineer.

Master of Cloud Engineering

The most exhilarating aspect of my job is its ever-changing nature. Each day presents fresh challenges and opportunities. It feels like I'm charting my own professional path because I can explore innovative technologies without the constant fear of failure. In this way, I both keep my skills up-to-date and enhance the projects I'm involved in by introducing novel initiatives.

As a Cloud Engineer, my role revolves around cloud architecture, solution design, development, and optimisation. Beyond providing technical solutions, I'm also acutely aware of the positive impact my work has on improving the lives of individuals coping with chronic illnesses.

A stranger is just a friend you haven't met

During my solo adventure in Venice, I spontaneously approached a fellow traveler, a woman I had never met, and invited her to share a day of exploration with me. What followed was an enchanting journey as we became instant companions, embarking on a gondola ride through the picturesque canals of this beautiful city.

I feel the need… the need for speed

Prior to becoming a part of Novo Nordisk, I ventured through diverse sectors, including banking, insurance, and telecommunications. I couldn't help but be taken aback by the relatively slower pace of digital transformation within the pharmaceutical and life sciences domains compared to my prior experiences.

Upon joining Novo Nordisk, I had anticipated encountering robust technological ecosystems, but to my surprise, it was still in its first steps at that time. However, there's an exciting transformation underway; the company is setting its sights on shortening the drug discovery process to an astonishing five years. This ambitious goal underscores the immense potential of digitalization in shaping the future of our industry.

"I think about IT architecture, security, and, of course, the availability of the service."
Sarra Ben Mayassa, Cloud Engineer at Novo Nordisk

Work

It goes beyond mere coding

I previously held a position at SciCap, a Scientific Data Capture program, where I contributed to the development of the Ontology Management System. This system played a vital role in shaping standard conceptual vocabularies for seamless data exchange across various systems. Its primary aim was to promote interoperability within our research organization.

In the broader context of cloud engineering, the role extends far beyond coding. It encompasses the orchestration of IT systems, their deployment, and integration.  My day to day work involves IT architecture, security, new feature development and ensuring uninterrupted service availability.

Did you stay awake for the entire journey?

⇢ Picture this: I once embarked on an epic 24-hour non-stop bus journey from the enchanting Venice to the vibrant streets of Berlin. Looking back, I can hardly believe how audaciously spontaneous and exhilarating that idea was!

It feels good

In my workplace, and across the entire organization, there is a strong emphasis on fostering integration, inclusion, and effective onboarding. Novo Nordisk, although predominantly comprised of Danish employees, is actively striving to increase its international workforce. My daily interactions involve collaborating with a diverse set of professionals, including Cloud Architects, DevOps Engineers, Scrum Masters, and Product Owners, each hailing from various backgrounds.

The welcoming and inclusive atmosphere here greatly facilitates networking with colleagues of different origins. Given the considerable time we spend working together, enjoying our work environment is of utmost importance.

Life

A companion for life

In 2018, I embarked on a journey to study abroad in Italy, leaving behind my family. By 2020, I had relocated to Denmark, initially with plans for a one-year stay. However, fate had other plans in store when I met my boyfriend. Fast forward to 2023, we tied the knot, and now we've found a comfortable and fulfilling life together in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Trick or treat

🙂 I had an unforgettable Halloween celebration in Berlin, where I roamed the city's streets all day, adorned in spooky Halloween makeup and a captivating costume.
